Kids Movie Launches Kickstarter to Fund Documentary

Producers of “The Kids,” an upcoming documentary about the actors who inspired Larry Clark’s “Kids,” are launching a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.

The campaign is starting in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of “Kids.” Carolyn Rothstein began working on the documentary two years ago by writing a retrospective about what happened to the children from “Kids.”

“We’ve spent the last two years in pre-production gathering never-before-seen archival footage and photographs, home videos, casting footage and more — an incredible trove of footage that captures the kids from ‘Kids,’” she said.

The funds will be used to digitize archival footage, film the next round of interviews and edit a rough cut. “Kids” star Hamilton Harris will direct and produce along with Rothstein, Peter Bicci and Jessica Forsythe.

“Kids” was written by Harmony Korine and directed by Larry Clark. It marked the feature film debuts of Chloë Sevigny, Leo Fitzpatrick, Justin Pierce, Rosario Dawson and Jon Abrahams, and centered on a day in the life of a group of sexually active teenagers in New York City.

“Kids” was a strong performer at the box office, grossing $20 million on a budget of $1.5 million.

Premiums in the campaign include $2,500 for a day on the set and $10,000 for an associate producer credit.
